Meet our global charity partner, SolarAid. Chosen by RS people in a global vote, SolarAid is a pioneering organisation working to end energy poverty and accelerate access to clean, safe solar light across sub-Saharan Africa.
Who is SolarAid?
Nearly 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa live without access to electricity. SolarAid provides a simple, sustainable solution: solar lights that replace toxic fuels like kerosene and candles, helping families stay safe, enabling children to study after dark, and empowering communities to thrive.
Their work is focused in Malawi in Zambia, across three pillars of impact:
On average, just 1 solar light reaches 5 people with clean, safe light, resulting in 1 more child studying after dark, £159 in annual savings for families and 4 people feeling safer at home as families are no longer relying on expensive, dangerous candles or kerosene.

Our partnership ambition

This support will help deliver clean, safe solar light and power to 150,000 people living in rural communities without access to electricity - empowering education, improving health, and unlocking opportunity.
